## Method

LV mass = 0.8 × 1.04 × [(IVSd + LVIDd + PWd)³ − LVIDd³] + 0.6 g

Record the units, date and measurement source · Optional

- Use measured height and weight where feasible. Record the units, date and whether a value was reported or estimated.
- Fluid status and weight changes affect BSA. Document any substituted weight; do not silently replace measured weight with ideal or dry weight.
- Use the unit named by the field. BSA is in m²; height and weight can be converted in the Body surface area calculator. Keep the formula with serial indexed results.

IVSd, LVIDd and PWd at the same end-diastolic PLAX level, perpendicular to the LV long axis. The cube formula uses centimetres; index mass to BSA when available.

Separate men’s and women’s normal, mild, moderate and severe partitions for IVSd, PWd, linear-method LV mass and LV mass/BSA. These mass partitions are specific to the linear method.
