## Probe position

At the apical impulse, low and lateral on the left chest

## Acquire the view

Place the probe at the true apical impulse and aim medially toward the base of the heart.

## Optimize the image

Avoid foreshortening: center a pointed apex and maximize both ventricles and atria.
