Left ventricular pressure calculator
Explore the available left ventricular pressure methods and check each method’s measurements, units and acquisition conditions.
Method
LVSP = 4(MR Vmax)² + LAP; LVEDP = DBP − 4(AR EDV)²
Use the measurement units shown below. Some fields apply only to a selected method or condition; follow the interactive tool’s method choices. The interactive tool keeps missing measurements incomplete and provides its method-specific results and reference context.
Measurements and acquisition
Pressure to estimate
Enter the measured value in the displayed unit
- LV systolic · MR
- LV end-diastolic · AR
- Confirm the variable matches the selected formula.
- Use the unit displayed beside the field.
- Keep measurements from the same representative hemodynamic state.
MR peak systolic velocity m/s
Continuous-wave Doppler
- Align the CW cursor as parallel as possible to the jet.
- Acquire a dense, complete envelope without truncation.
- Measure the highest absolute velocity on the selected envelope.
Independent LAP estimate mmHg
Contemporaneous cuff or invasive value
- Use a pressure obtained in the same hemodynamic state as the echo.
- Confirm the value is entered in mmHg.
- Do not mix values acquired under different loading conditions.
Diastolic blood pressure mmHg
Contemporaneous cuff or invasive value
- Use a pressure obtained in the same hemodynamic state as the echo.
- Confirm the value is entered in mmHg.
- Do not mix values acquired under different loading conditions.
AR end-diastolic velocity m/s
Continuous-wave Doppler
- Align the CW cursor as parallel as possible to the jet.
- Acquire a dense, complete envelope without truncation.
- Measure the highest absolute velocity on the selected envelope.

Validation of regurgitant left-sided pressure gradients. A gradient requires an independent reference to estimate an absolute pressure; mean LAP is not an instantaneous systolic LA waveform.

LVEDP estimated as cuff DBP minus 4 × AR end-diastolic velocity squared. High-quality spectra in 31 of 45 patients; signal dropout limits applicability. No pressure grading threshold is supplied here.
